It applies, sort of. This would at least give the team losing the toss the opportunity to get the ball if the team only kicks a field goal first. Yes, you still wouldn't get the ball if the team scored a TD which makes it the same as today. But by making it "score 6", you couldn't lose a game if you stopped a team on the 35 but gave up a long FG. At least you would get a shot.

I for one am not a fan of the college rule in the pros. The back and forth of some of these 7 OT games is just as insane to me as the current sudden death rule in the pros.

Better yet, let's do penalty kicks! haha

Each FG kicker starts at the 40 and goes back 5 yards until 1 misses!

OK, maybe they could make this one change for OT. Don't allow Field Goal tries on the first possession for each team. if a team marched down the field and scores a TD game over, wether both teams had a chance or not but neither team can attempt a FG on their first possession.

    Re: Reminded Once Again

I always liked the NFL overtime rule...cuz if a team is all O, then they'd better win the toss...but a team with a good D usually has the advantage in OT.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

The college rule does lead to crazy number of overtimes.

I dont hate teh NFL rules, it makes overtime really exciting.

Its even more exciting when the team who gets the ball doesn't score, i.e. Seattle at GB in the playoffs a couple years ago, when al harris took the INT back after hasslebeck ran his mouth
